Having auditioned for American Idol. I have to say this was a nice little change up between the ways they auditioned people.
It only took 4 hours in and out for me. Picked up a friend from the Airport then drove to the Convention center. Arrived at a little before 2 and started lining up. The line itself took about 2 hours to progress through. It was definitely nerve wracking. Got to meet some awesome people in line and shared some nice jam sessions.
One thing I liked a little better about Idol was that you were able to interact with more people after you got into the venue. For the Voice, you pretty much went in… waited for a little, couldn’t move around too much and yeah that was that.
The audition groups consisted of 10 people. We’d sit down in a room with a producer and one by one she’d call people up.
I have to say the talent level for the voice is definitely on a higher average than American Idol. Everyone in my group could sing.
I was second to last to come up and I sang my heart out - Rumor Has It by Adele.
I chose this song because this was the song I choked on for my American Idol audition (Where I went to the first set of TV Rounds in front of the judges).
It was gratifying to sing the song to the best of my ability and finish it up unlike last time. After we all sang, everyone was excused from the room…except for me!!
The producer called me up, nice woman named Holly, and we talked a bit. She asked for my number ;) - but only because she wanted to give me a call later if i had made it to call backs. So even after being called up…I was still only a Maybe. I was to expect a call last night around 9 or so…but that call never arrived. Kind of makes me feel like I was stood up by a date or something. However, I can take pride that at least I was still considered.
I’m definitely disappointed that I didn’t make it through, who wouldn’t be? I’m still keeping my hopes up that they just forgot to call me today :P
There will be next time and until then I’ll still be pursuing my music career through other venues. Maybe Lestat’s in San Diego as a baby step?
Hey guys, in between revamping some of my old songs (Which I’ve been horribly lazy at) Ben Reiter and I wrote a holiday heartbreak song. We’re going to each do our version and then somehow mash it together. Here’s my live take of the song…backtracked version coming later!
Spent pretty much one week without doing anything music related. Just trying to get away from it for a while so I don’t get bored of it. Hope you’ve enjoyed the tracks so far.
Anyway, I’m probably not going to be doing any more raps for a while. Haha….however, I am working on a Christmas song and will be revamping some older material and see what I can do with my new found skills! Been reading up and looking at a lot of videos lately for new tips and tricks on EQs and production.
Another project I’m setting out to do is to record other people’s stuff and try producing it as well! I need to practice catering to what other people want to hear from their stuff in order to truly grow. So if you want to record something let me know, I’ll be down to do it for free =)
Finally, I’ll be working on a track that involves some female vocals soon, so if you’re interested in doing a little collaboration with me, let me know!!!
Hey guys, I just completed writing the music and finished recording a new track with the rapping. I’m still learning to adjust compression and multiple EQs. It’s been really fun manipulating sound to make myself sound better! haha
Here’s my first post on tumblr and i hope the first of many! It’s been several months since i really got serious with using the protools and sound engineering. I have to say…It really takes my passions with music to another level.
I’m so used to putting out shoddy recordings with dinky devices next to a piano and stitching it together sloppily. I didn’t realize how little pride i really had in my work until I started using this software and all this hardware to really do my stuff..And even now I know I’m barely touching the surface.
But I’m glad that I’m taking this year off of school to pursue some dreams of mine because it has made me ever so more passionate about what I want to do. I actually spend more than 2 hours on a recording now!! My patience level has been upgraded to about 2-3 days with one project haha…I’ll gradually build it so that I can withstand working on one project for a week at a time, but hopefully I also get good enough so that I don’t have to spend a week of grueling hours perfecting a song.
Anyway…enough with the rambling. Here are my first 2 projects that I’m proud to put onto my sound cloud. Here’s to my first 2-3 months of learning and getting hardcore with sound and all of the support that I’ve been getting from friends and family. I won’t let you down.
Song I wrote during my trip to Turkey and finally put it all down right when I got back. Still not fully complete at my current skill level. When I get better I’m going to revisit this baby. Also, this song is currently being remixed by my friend Graham Saber, AKA MarcusG so you guys will soon get a very very hot track to listen to.
This song is a song my friend Ben Reiter and I wrote over the summer during a random jam session. Unfortunately, he’s not in San Diego at the moment so I haven’t been able to do a version with his vocals included. Hopefully when he’s back I’ll be able to mix a version with both of our vocals in it!
